The User Inyerface game was quite frustrating to play. It took me a while to figure out how to log into the game. I was stuck on page one for a long time and had to read everything carefully, in order to proceed to the next page. The first thing I tried to figure out was the password. It had a list of descriptions below the web page stating what the password should have. I even googled Cyrillic characters since I didn’t read the description carefully and only realized after 20 minutes that it said, “you CAN add cyrillic character in your password”. It turned out to be an option instead of a requirement. The graphic design interface for this webpage wasn’t user friendly at all. I guess the intention of the exercise was to have us as users, experience what it’s like to play with a web page full of web design mistakes. As this week’s topic is about attention economy, this web page did the complete opposite for me, as I lost patience before the actual game even started. I had to find a Youtube video of someone playing the same game to see how he logged in successfully after my futile efforts.
When I got to the second page, I mistakenly clicked the download icon instead of the small upload icon when I tried to upload the picture of my avatar. When asked to choose three things that I find interesting, I had to untick all the boxes individually, only towards the end did I noticed the “unclick all” option.
The third and fourth page was confusing, as it asked users to click on images with “a circle”, “light” and “check”. However, the images they chose were based on homonyms. Therefore, it was unclear to me which images they wanted me to check and which to leave out. At one point, I just checked all the columns to play with my chances. This actually worked and I was finally was able to complete the game!
